Mobile Hands

There is a need for skilled people who are willing to offer their help where it is needed in the world. Mobile Hands is a new project that I am working on to make this a possibility, where a team of people travel to a place that desperately needs help and uses their skills and abilities to solve this problem.

Some examples, taken from my time travelling around Bolivia in April 2006 (oops, have just found out all of the dates for my Bolivian trip are completely incorrect and random) include:

  • A mission without water for 8 months because of an unrepairable broken pipe (5 days to fix).
  • A school for disadvantaged children suffering for 3 months with an unusable bathroom on the ground floor owing to blocked pipes backing up onto the floor (1/2 day to fix).
  • A mission with a guest room that needed a curtain over the glass doors. They had been waiting over 5 months after buying everything they needed to do it for someone to be able to place it there (1hr to fix).
  • A rehabilitation centre for drug addicts needing to connect two offices of computers together for many months (1 day to fix).
  • A youth organization desperately needed to establish their presence on the Internet with a website (2 days to fix).

In all cases the materials and tools were provided. The only thing missing was the skills to be able to do the work. Some of the jobs were very minor, but annoying, while other tasks were serious and in urgent need when I arrived.

Although it is early days still, there is a distinct possibility that Mobile Hands could extend not only to the mission bases and social organizations, but also to individuals and even entire towns that are desperately in need of different works. Of course a town-sized project would require some large teams of very specifically skilled people and perhaps even some specialized equipment, but the possibilities are endless.

Why would somebody do something like this you may be asking? Well, the first reason is because as a Christian, I am called by God to love my neighbour. This is one way in which I can love my neighbour. Secondly, there is a need. Finally, it is something that I believe is very needed in this world right now.

There are many people and organizations needing, hoping, and praying for this sort of help. Mobile Hands can help them.

Mobile Hands is known in Spanish as Manos Móviles.
